Carlos J. Vital, MD
Dr. Vital joined The Allergy Clinic in July, 2005. Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, he obtained
his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biology from Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans, where
he became a member of the Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society. Then, he attended Louisiana
State University (LSU) School of Medicine in New Orleans, completing his Doctor of Medicine (MD) in
1999.
As a lifelong patient with allergic asthma and food allergies, Dr. Vital decided to train in Internal
Medicine & Pediatrics residency at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans with the hope of better
preparing him for a career in allergy & immunology. While in residency, Dr. Vital became known as an
advocate for patients and physicians by becoming: President of the Louisiana State Medical Society-
Resident Fellow Section, 2000-2005; Region 3 Director, American Medical Association-Resident Fellow
Section for Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas from 2000- 2002, and;
Resident Director, Board of Directors, Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, 2002-
2004, where Dr. Vital was responsible for the accreditation of physician training and graduate medical
education programs across the United States. In 2003, the Medical Center of Louisiana/ LSU
Healthcare Services Division awarded Dr. Vital with Resident of the Year Honors for the Department of
Internal Medicine & Pediatrics and nominee for overall Resident of the Year.
This prepared Dr. Vital for training in adult and pediatric Allergy & Immunology Fellowship at LSU Health
Sciences Center in New Orleans. After completion of his training in 2005, Dr. Vital became board
certified by the American Board of Allergy & Immunology in the same year. As a physician of The
Allergy Clinic, Dr. Vital enjoys treating kids and adults using the latest advances in the diagnosis and
treatment of allergies and asthma balanced with practical application of these treatment modalities. Dr.
Vital also has the unique ability to relate to his patients as a past allergy and asthma sufferer using
comprehensive treatment involving appropriate preventive, medical, fitness, and dietary techniques.
Dr. Vital has been bestowed the honor of Fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, &
Immunology and Fellow of the American College of Asthma, Allergy, and Immunology. He is a Consumer
Research Council of America Top Physician in Allergy & Immunology.
Dr. Vital still remains active in organized medicine as a delegate to the Texas Medical Association
House of Delegates. He is a member of the Texas Medical Association and represents Harris County
Medical Society, American Medical Association, National Medical Association, Houston Medical Forum,
and the Greater Houston Allergy Society.
Dr. Vital is married to Karla Vital, MD, a nephrologist (kidney specialist) and Assistant Professor of
Medicine and Associate Program Director in Nephrology at University of Texas Medical Branch in
Galveston. They have two children. A musician of 27 years, Dr. Carlos Vital enjoys playing the clarinet
and saxophone. In addition, he enjoys exercising, cooking food of all types, and spending time with
family.
